Canning Stock Route

Trails

The Canning Stock Route links Wiluna to Halls Creek in the Kimberley.

In 1906, the commissioning of a route by Alfred Canning opened an area of inaccessible, remote and harsh terrain spanning 1500kms from Wiluna to Halls Creek. Taking 4 years to complete, the Canning Stock Route still remains one of the most challenging 4WD tracks anywhere in the world.

Up-to-date information regarding the condition of the route, access and permits should be obtained by anybody intending to travel the Canning Stock Route. Suitable preparation should be made before attempting to travel across the Canning Stock Route. You may be able to find some useful information by searching the Internet or accessing some of the suggested useful links.

Please feel free to contact the Shire of Wiluna; email: reception@wiluna.wa.gov.au or telephone 08 99818000
